Ala' Al-Thibeh آلاء الذيبة

Ala’ is a Palestinian Artist born in Amman, Jordan and raised in the diaspora in Ontario, Canada. She has Palestinian roots from the small town of Thikreen (ذكرين) in Al-Khalil (Hebron الخليل). Both of her parents were born in Al-Khalil and were displaced in 1967. Ala’ was taught Tatreez by her mother at the age of six years. Over the years, Ala’ has learned several embroidery techniques that she uses in the creative process of the construction of Palestinian tapestries and dress-making. Ala’ sees Tatreez as a form of storytelling, resistance, and healing.

In addition to Tatreez Studio, Ala’ is a Psychotherapist and an Artist passionate about preserving Palestinian Tatreez and art. Ala’ uses various art forms such as Tatreez, mosaics, sacred geometry, Arabic calligraphy, and textiles—as a means of expression, resilience, and collective healing, and resistance. Ala' deeply values the traditional arts and encourages other Palestinians to continue to practice these beautiful art forms. Ala' created Tatreez Studio in the hopes to pass down these beautiful traditions to future generations.
