Description:

The Introduction to Tahriri Workshop Series is a two-part embroidery workshop series focusing on the unique traditional Tahriri (couching) embroidery that has heavy roots in Bethlehem, Jerusalem and Ramallah regions.   

In these 2.5-hour workshops led by Tatreez Studio, you will learn the history and cultural significance of Tahriri embroidery. You will also learn basic and advanced Tahriri embroidery techniques that you can use on your future projects. 

What’s to expect:

  • Hands-on Tahriri (Palestinian Couching Embroidery) Workshops facilitated by Ala’ Al-Thibeh
  • Learn the history & cultural significance
  • Create your own Tahriri pieces with motifs inspired by historical Palestinian designs and Thoubs (dresses) – no experience needed
  • A welcoming space to connect and create

Workshop One: In-person workshop on Saturday, November 29th at Sitti’s where you will learn the basics of Tahriri Embroidery.

Workshop Two: Virtual session on Saturday, December 6th from 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM on which you will learn a more advanced Tahriri Motif (A zoom link will be sent out to all participants post the initial in-person workshop).

Q: Do I need embroidery experience to join?
Not at all! This workshop is beginner-friendly and fully guided by Tatreez Studio.

Q: Are refunds available?
Tickets are non-refundable. However, if you can no longer attend, you may transfer your ticket to someone else — please notify us in advance.

Q: Can I attend with someone else?
Absolutely! This event is open to women and girls ages 16+. You’re welcome to attend with your mother, daughter, sister, or friend — or come solo and connect with others on the day.

Q: What’s included in my ticket
• All Tahriri embroidery materials (fabric, thread, needles, and design keys)
• Light refreshments and finger foods
• Access to shop Sitti’s curated selection of handmade goods

Q: What if I’m running late?
Please plan to arrive on time. We’re unable to extend the session for latecomers.

Q: Can I bring my younger child or baby?
This experience is designed for ages 16+. Due to the nature of the materials and the quiet focus of the workshop, we kindly ask that younger children not attend.

Q: Will I finish the embroidery at the event?
You’ll make progress during the session. If unfinished, you’ll leave with all the tools needed to complete your design at home.

Q: Will there be products available to purchase?
Yes! You’ll have a chance to browse and shop a beautiful selection of handmade goods from Sitti, supporting their impactful work with refugee and displaced communities.

Q: Will there be food?
Yes — light refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Q: Is this a nut-free event?
We cannot guarantee a nut-free environment. If you have allergies, please exercise caution.
